Forklift trucks work under extreme conditions - high loads, continuous movement and contamination such as dust and dirt put the components under a lot of stress. A key rotary solution for smooth operation is the #liftmastroller. It ensures precise guidance of the mast and guarantees exact lifting and lowering of loads. Frequent start-stop cycles and dynamic load changes are a major challenge here in particular. If the load falls below the minimum load, there is a risk of increased sliding friction, which can lead to premature wear. An optimised mating track design and suitable lubrication strategies are essential in order to maximise the service life of the bearing and avoid unplanned downtimes. An inadequately designed mating track can lead to increased wear, uneven load distribution and reduced service life. Important aspects in the design: ✅ Material selection and heat treatment: High-strength materials with suitable hardening reduce plastic deformation and surface wear. ✅ Surface finish: A finely machined surface minimises friction and promotes stable lubricant film formation. ✅ Hertzian pressure: An adapted contact geometry prevents material fatigue and promotes even loading. However, it is not only the mating track that is decisive - the minimum load must not be undercut either! Otherwise you’re risking: ❌ Insufficient rolling of the rolling elements → Risk of sliding friction increases. ❌ Lubricating film is broken → Metal-to-metal contact leads to adhesive wear (lubrication). ❌ Increased friction and local overheating → Deterioration of running conditions. Applications with start-stop cycles or high accelerations are particularly problematic. To avoid damage, the following solutions can be considered: ✅ DLC coatings to reduce friction and increase wear resistance. ✅ Optimised lubrication concepts to ensure stable separation of the contact surfaces. ✅ Smaller series of dimensions to ensure a sufficient minimum load.
